37 Illinois Districts Get School Construction Funds

March 1, 2012
Illinois will provide more than $623 million to 31 school districts.

Illinois will provide more than $623 million to 31 school districts in the state to construct new buildings or expand existing ones. This capital funding comes from the Illinois Jobs Now! Capital construction program.

In addition to the additional classroom space, the funding will create about 4,000 construction jobs.

"This capital funding will help school districts across the state update their facilities and make critical repairs," says Gov. Pat Quinn.

The money, combined with local dollars, will enable school districts to complete projects totaling more than $1.2 billion. The largest amount of state funding, about $115 million, will go to Chicago Public Schools.
