Foul odor leads to evacuation of New Jersey college

Nov. 5, 2014
At least nine buildings on the campus were evacuated after reports of a bad odor in the library, school officials said.

Brookdale Community College reopened most of its campus after reports of a strong odor on the Lincroft, N.J., campus.

At least nine buildings on the campus were evacuated after reports of a bad odor in the library, school officials said. Emergency response teams were called to the school to investigate the source of the odor.

The odor was a result of household cleaning and piano refurbishing chemicals that were found in boxes in the basement of the Bankier Library, according to the school’s Facebook page. All of the buildings except the library were reopened. The library remains closed until further notice.

No one was hurt in the incident, but at least one student complained of headaches as a result of being exposed to the fumes.
