Armed police will continue at Hillsborough County, Fla., elementary schools

Added security began after Connecticut shootings

From The Tampa Tribune: When classes resume next week at Hillsborough County, Fla., elementary schools, an armed police officer or deputy will be on duty at each one for added security. Armed police were assigned to elementary schools last month, in the aftermath of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., but it was uncertain whether the extra law enforcement presence would continue after the winter vacation. Officials now say that the additional security will be extended to elementary schools the remainder of the school year. Armed officers or deputies already are assigned to the district's middle and high schools.
