Campus police will be armed for the first time when students return to classes at Estrella Mountain Community College in Avondale, Ariz. The campus' five law-enforcement officers are carrying .40-caliber Glock 22 handguns issued by the Maricopa County Community College District, giving them the tools to handle immediate threats. A state law now requires sworn officers to carry guns. Previously, the decision was left to each community college district.
