Push for school district mergers is waning in South Dakota

Sept. 27, 2010
State has 44 fewer school systems than it did in 1976

From The Sioux Falls Argus-Leader: South Dakota has reduced its number of school districts from 196 in 1976 to 152 this fall. Consolidations might continue to play out as the state's smallest schools lose additional students in coming years and struggle financially to provide services. But the statewide political push for consolidation is waning after two dozen school districts combined in the past 10 years.
