Mistake cost the state $400 million in Race to the Top funding

From The New York Times: New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has fired the state's education commissioner, just days after the governor said a clerical error had cost the state a $400 million federal education grant in the Race to the Top competition. The mistake caused the state to forfeit almost five points in the competition. It lost out on any money by three points out of a possible 500. Christie initially defended his administration’s actions, insisting that his education secretary, Bret D. Schundler, had provided the correct information to federal reviewers. But federal officials subsequently released a video showing that Schundler and his staff had failed to produce the information when a reviewer requested it.
