Michigan schools make green push
The Michigan Green Schools Initiative has enticed a growing number of schools--124 to date--to go green by cutting energy consumption, reducing their use of toxic chemicals, recycling materials and other measures. Gov. Jennifer Granholm signed the Green Schools Initiative into law in May 2006. Schools must meet a number of criteria to be declared a Green School or a more stringent set of criteria to become an Emerald School.
