A sign-changing ceremony at Hillcrest High School in Midvale will mark the Jordan district's handoff of 33,000 students and 44 schools. Under the new Canyons School District, Midvale's outdated, underperforming schools will be the recipient of an east-side affluence.
Earlier...from The Salt Lake Tribune: On July 1, Jordan (Utah) School District superintendent Barry Newbold will relinquish his office, nearly half his 94 schools, 80,000 students and $2 billion in assets to the new Canyons School District. The division of Jordan, Utah's largest school district, has taken a toll on Newbold. Since 2007 when residents in the eastern part of the district voted to form their own school system, he says he has been weathering the political, legal and financial fallout while keeping schools and buses running.
