Miami superintendent paints a grim budget outlook

From The Miami Herald: If the state of Florida doesn't come up with money to replace federal stimulus dollars, expect draconian cuts, Miami-Dade School Supt. Alberto Carvalho says. The schools chief wouldn't elaborate, but it's all but certain jobs and programs would be in jeopardy. In Miami-Dade, stimulus funds account for $121 million of the school system's $4.3 billion budget. They fund 700 guidance counselors, 350 media specialists, 900 special education teacher aides and five adult schools.
