DeKalb County, Ga., plans green high school

Construction crews have broken ground at the site of DeKalb County, Ga.'s new Arabia Mountain High School. Officials say the $36.9 million, 240,000-square-foot project is believed to be the first public high school campus in the state designed to meet stringent environmental building standards. It will have Waterless urinals and sensors on sinks will control water usage. The bricks and stone will have come from places no more than 500 miles away. Glass will let in natural light in every space, and the building will face north-south to reduce energy use. rum's design of the 240,000-square-foot high school also includes "small learning communities." The architect is Perkins+Will.
