Union says 170 are losing their jobs

From The Seattle Times: Seattle is the latest school district to announce it will lay off teachers next year. The district had hoped enough teachers would retire or leave to make teachers layoffs unnecessary. But this week, principals started notifying some teachers that they won't have a job next fall. District officials weren't ready to release the total number of layoffs, but the president of the Seattle teachers' union says she's been told that about 170 teachers and other certificated staff members will lose their jobs.
