St. Louis picks consultant to help on closing decisions
District is looking at closing as many as one-fourth of its 88 schools
As district leaders contemplate shuttering nearly a fourth of the 88 buildings in theSt. Louis Public Schools, they are vowing to avoid the political acrimony that has marked repeated school closures in recent years. The Special Adminstrative Board has edged closer toward that goal by approving a contract with a private consulting firm that will determine which schools should close and why. Chief Executive Officer Rick Sullivan says the board will decide on closings after the firm conducts a comprehensive review of the district's facilities.
