Lawsuit contends principal was fired for backing plan to have charter group run school

A former principal at Locke High School in Los Angeles contends in a lawsuit that the Los Angeles Unified School District illegally fired him last year after he voiced his support for a plan to turn over the campus to a charter school operator. Frank Wells says he lost his job because of comments he made criticizing the district and supporting the charter petition of Green Dot Public Schools. Green Dot ultimately won its fight to run Locke, long one of the lowest-performing in the city, and will take over in July.
