Anchorage voters reject bond request for school upgrades

From The Anchorage Daily News: The Anchorage, Alaska, school system has failed to win approval of two bond proposals that would have provide more than $97 million for facility upgrades. Officials say some projects that the bonds would have paid for involve fixing safety hazards, which now will have to be paid for out of the budget for regular school operations.

EARLIER: Voters in Anchorage, Alaska, will go to the polls on April 7 to decide the fate of two bond proposals. Proposition 1 would provide $69.9 million, most of which would be used to complete renovations of Service High, the second-largest school in the district, which opened in 1971. Proposition 2 would provide $27.5 million, which will enable the school system to replace and upgrade major systems at many campuses.
