State says it could save $9.7 million by raising average class size by one
Education officials inHawaii say they could save $9.7 million annually if the state's average class size increased by one student, to 27.15 children, in grades 3 through 12. The savings would come from eliminating 159 teaching positions that would no longer be needed, according to a plan presented to a Board of Education budget committee.
