Nearly 200 seniors atHighland Park (Mich.) Career Academy will have to finish the school year with online courses, and as many as 600 other students will have to attend night school because their building is slated to be shuttered. But state officials say the Highland Park district doesn't have permission to grant online credit, meaning seniors who complete the year online might not graduate. The school board decided last week to close the Career Academy and eliminate 36 teaching positions so the district could stay within this year's annual budget of roughly $25 million.
