Hawaii to investigate school procurement procedures

Audits say contracts are awarded with little oversight

The Hawaii Department of Education is investigating potential ethics and fraud violations over the award of school contracts. State audits have blasted procurement procedures, saying they often are awarded with little oversight and no competition, resulting in an "inefficient and wasteful" process ripe for abuse.
