The battle to save South San Antonio High School West Campus has been resolved with a settlement that allows the South San Antonio district to move forward with its plans to close the campus. In the agreement between district officials and members of Save West Campus, the district has agreed to have more community involvement in future school closures.

FROM DECEMBER 2007: The South San Antonio (Texas) school board has voted to sue Save West Campus, the community group that sued the district last month in an effort to keep officials from closing South San Antonio High School West Campus. The board voted earlier this year to close the high school.

EARLIER: A judge has denied a request by parents fighting to immediately halt the closing of South San Antonio High School West Campus. However, the judge did set a February trial date on the closing issue. The South San Antonio board decided last month to close the campus. After heavy rains in August caused extensive damage to the campus, students were sent to South San Antonio High in what was billed as a temporary move. But board members say declining enrollment has made West Campus inefficient, and the vote to make the merger permanent was intended to resolve the matter. It hasn't.

Hundreds of parents, students and community members are fighting to keep South San Antonio (Texas) High School West Campus open. Students from West Campus have been attending South San Antonio High School since classes began in August. Flooding badly damaged West Campus, and cleanup is still under way. Now officials are thinking about closing West Campus altogether.
