San Diego formulates budget-cutting plans

District needs to reduce spending to cope with state finance crisis
IfCalifornia's budget crunch forces San Diego school trustees to slash costs in the state's second largest district, trustees are inclined to come up with the first $22 million with almost no canceling of services. Instead, the board would take $9 million in redevelopment money, generally used to improve buildings and grounds in blighted neighborhoods, and use it to pay custodians.
