Support is growing for preservationists trying to save the old Wing Lake School in Bloomfield Township, Mich., and its prize-winning 1948 addition. But time also is growing short for the preservation effort. Last week, the board of the Bloomfield Hills School District, which owns the 4-acre property, approved plans to temporarily move all students at the end of March to the former Fairview Elementary School. The original schoolhouse, built in 1859, would be preserved under the school board's plan, but history buffs say that's not enough. They also want the 1948 addition to be saved as an example of architectural sensitivity ahead of its time.
