Austin (Texas) school Superintendent Pat Forgione has received a $6,200 reimbursement from the school district for hearing aids, as is allowed under a 2006 amendment to his contract. Those items are not covered by his or other district employees' health insurance. Forgione's base salary is $284,563. Although it's common for superintendents to receive benefits including cell phone allowances and extra retirement benefits, the hearing aid benefit is unusual, says the Texas Association of School Boards.
