Memorial Union reopens at Arizona State University

Jan. 15, 2008
Fire had closed the student gathering spot last fall

The first and lower-level floors of Arizona State University's Memorial Union have reopened for the first time following a fire more than two months ago. All food services, ATMs, a travel agency, two banks and other retail businesses are now open, though the second and third floors remain closed. The 255,000-square-foot building was shut down after a fire in a second-floor storage closet on Nov. 1. The fire did the most damage on the second and third floors, but smoke damaged the entire building.
