Michigan attorney general seeks to block Detroit school board's appointment of treasurer

Oct. 1, 2009
State official argues that the appointment violates state legislation that gives fiscal authority to district's emergency financial manager

From The Detroit News: Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox wants a judge to stop the Detroit school board from appointing a treasurer. At a meeting earlier this week, the school board named Walter Esaw, former board treasurer and district budget director, to serve as an unpaid treasurer to the board. Cox contends that the appointment "was in blatant disregard" of Michigan law, which gives authority to Robert Bobb as the district's emergency financial manager.
