Classes could resume as early as Tuesday at Community College of Philadelphia, after a tentative agreement was reached yesterday to end the 12-day strike by 1,400 faculty and support staff. A college spokesman says the institution did not budge from its "last and final" pay offer that was on the table at the beginning of the strike. But the agreement includes a sweetener that helped end the strike--bonuses totaling $160,000 a year over the five-year contract,

The 1,400 faculty and support staff at the Community College of Philadelphia went on strike Tuesday, forcing the college to cancel classes for 37,000 students until both sides can agree on a new contract. Employees are seeking annual salary increases of 3.75 percent for five years; the college has offered increases that it says would average 3.62 percent over the same period.
