New Memphis high school will be community hub

City and school district worked together on Douglass High, which will open in 2008

When a new Douglass High opens in August 2008, it will represent a new way to build schools -- it will become a partner to Douglass Park as a hub of the North Memphis community. Officials say the $26 million school project is a shot in the arm for economic development in the community. The city secured federal money to pay for the $1 million demolition of the 60-year-old school building, which closed in 1981 because of low enrollment.
