Muslim school in Detroit closes

From The Detroit Free Press: The director of a Muslim school in Detroit has shut down because of mounting bills. American Muslim Academy had 170 students, compared with 225 last year. Many of the students the children of Lebanese-American Shi'ite Muslims who wanted their children to be educated in an Islamic environment. The academy opened in 2006, but the school's director, Mahmoud Hazime, says it will remain closed unless someone can donate $500,000 or $600,000 to solve the school's financial woes.
