Colleges turn to technology for recruiting

School use text messages, social media sites to communicate with prospective students

Faced with an increasingly competitive college market, higher education officials are pulling out all the stops when it comes to recruitment. It's not enough to mail out thousands of glossy brochures touting a diverse student population and wide-ranging courses. Colleges are using social media sites, sending e-mails and even transmitting text messages to drive prospective students to Web sites.
