Lake Oswego (Ore.) district will close 3 elementary schools in next 2 years

Palisades, Bryant and Uplands schools fall victim to budget shortfall

From The Portland Oregonian: TheLake Oswego (Ore.) School Districtwill close three elementary schools over the next two years, despite vocal opposition and about $4 million in additional funds from the city and the community. Board members have decided to close Palisadesnext year and Bryantand Uplandsthe following year. When all three are closed, the district will save about $2.3 million a year. Board members say the closures are necessary to fill the district's expected shortfall of $5.5 million next year and to maintain current academic programs.


NOVEMBER 2010...From The Portland Oregonian: The Lake Oswego (Ore.) School District may close three of its nine elementary schools in the near future. Dismal economic forecasts and low enrollment numbers have prompted educators to look into consolidating schools in the 6,700-student district. An advisory committee has narrowed its recommendations to two options that shutter three elementary schools and move sixth-graders into junior high schools.
