Port Arthur (Texas) district reviews bids on high school project

Two of three bids exceed cost estimates.
March 7, 2007

The Port Arthur (Texas) district is planning to build a new Memorial High School, but only one of the three construction bids is below the architect’s estimate. Voters in 2004 approved a bond proposal that set the cost at $57 million; the architect has estimated the cost at $56.75 million. The bids received were $56.35 million, $65.35 million and $68.8 million. If the district is able to keep the project on schedule, the new high school will open for the 2009-10 year. District officials expect to make a recommendation to the school board later this month. The architect is PBK Architects.
