Teachers union wants Chicago schools chief fired

Group wants Arne Duncan held responsible for theft of laptop computers that held personal information about 40,000 teachers.
April 10, 2007

Chicago Teachers Union President Marilyn Stewart is calling for the ouster of schools chief Arne Duncan, saying he should be held accountable for the theft of two laptops that contained the names and Social Security numbers of 40,000 teachers. The password-protected computers belonged to McGladrey & Pullen, an accounting firm that was reviewing payments into the Chicago Teachers Pension Fund. Two auditors left the laptops unattended last week. Duncan has apologized for the breach but says he doesn't intend to resign.
