From The Detroit Free Press: Education proposals advocated by the governor of Michigancould exacerbate problems in the struggling Detroitschool system. City leaders are concerned about proposals to expand school choice and lift a cap on charter schools. Under Gov. Rick Snyder's school choice plan, districts with excess class capacity would be required to accept students from other districts. Some legislative, union and school board officials say that and other measures would push more students and funds out of the Detroit at a time when the district is struggling to find its financial footing under the direction of an emergency financial manager.
