No elementary schools will close this year in Chicago archdiocese
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago says it will not close any of its elementary schools in June. The announcement marks the first time in 45 years that officials said no Catholic elementary schools would be closing. The archdiocese operates 257 elementary and high schools in Lake and Cook Counties. Since its peak enrollment of 366,000 in 1965, enrollment in the Catholic school system has fallen to 98,225 students.
