Des Moines' only charter school will shut down for a year

District says it hasn't yet found a qualified director to run the school
July 11, 2012

From The Des Moines Register: The only charter school in Des Moines, Iowa, will take a year-long hiatus, the school board has decided. The plan requires final approval from the Iowa Department of Education and calls for the program to reopen in 2013. An inability to find a new director for the school spurred the temporary closure, district officials say. Classes would have resumed Aug. 1. After 18 months of operation, the 106-student school also lacks a sound budget, unified curriculum and official policies.
