Budget woes force school system to let go almost 10 percent of its staff

TheSaginaw (Mich.) School Board has approved laying off almost 10 percent of district employees. Pink slips will go to 118 employees, including 63 first- and second-year teachers. The layoffs are effective Jan. 23. With a budget deficit for this year and the need for mid-year cuts, the district had few options, Superintendent Thomas Barris says.
