Indianapolis board backs away from plan to close 2 elementary schools

From The Indianapolis Star: In a quick reversal, Indianapolis Public Schools officials have abandoned a proposal to close two elementary schools and now plan to open a new high school that would serve high-ability students. After public outrage over the district's proposal to close Schools 107 and 109, the board announced that the two schools would remain open next year. The new high school, which would open for the 2012-13 school year, would be at Gambold Middle School and would house students that have participated in academically advanced programs.
