Louisiana governor moves to expedite school repairs and construction in New Orleans

Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco has assigned her top facilities planning official to look for ways to streamline purchasing and contracting to repair and construct school facilities in New Orleans and provide classroom space for students returning to the city. Jerry Jones, director of the state Facilities Planning and Control office, will try to cut through red tape for an estimated $1 billion in repair projects for the state's Recovery School District, which oversees most public schools in New Orleans.
