Florida district approves design plans for two high school facilities

Charlotte High School had sustained heavy damage from Hurricane Charley in 2004.

The Charlotte County (Fla.) School Board has given a thumbs up to the master plans for rebuilding Charlotte and Lemon Bay high schools. The design for Charlotte High depicts regal palm trees lined in front of the restored facade of the multiple-story front building built in 1926. The school was devastated after Hurricane Charley struck in August 2004. Designers paid particular attention to recreating the campus, considered by many a piece of history and a source of community pride. The master plan for Lemon Bay High School also was approved. The 1962-built school, which once served as an elementary school, is being updated to meet flood issue and student needs.
