State takeover of 4 Indianapolis schools leads to 80 teacher layoffs
From The Indianapolis Star: The state of Indiana's takeover of four Indianapolis schools will cause about 80 teacher layoffs and many of those layoffs will be driven by poor performance rather than low seniority. Teachers do not like the losses or the process, but say it could have been worse. A union official says 262 jobs initially were in danger. Donnan Middle School, Howe Community High School and Manual High School will be run independently next year by Charter Schools USA. Arlington High School will be managed by EdPower.
