4 new high schools are opening in Twin Cities region

Construction of new schools is expected to slow
Aug. 31, 2009

From The Minneapolis Star-Tribune: Four new high schools are opening this week in the Twin Cities area. This year's new high schools -- in Chanhassen, Farmington, St. Michael-Albertville and Woodbury -- are all in outer-ring suburbs and were planned in the midst of a robust economy. New homes were being built at record levels, so new schools were needed to accommodate the growth. But the economic crisis has put a halt to many districts' plans for new facilities. Instead, the emphasis is shifting to upkeep and repair, and making sure there are enough funds to operate existing buildings, school officials say.
