Students at Sacramento campus slow to embrace new parking garage

Many try to find cheaper spaces outside garage.

A new $40 million garage at California State University, Sacramento is supposed to solve a chronic parking crunch on campus. But old parking habits are hard to break. Last week, students were circling the expansive parking lots near the football stadium, waiting for a spot. Others continued to park in overflow gravel lots across from campus, or park for free along city streets. On most days, the top two floors of the six-story garage are almost empty.
