Two-week furlough for staff at John Carroll University

Cleveland-area institution says endowment value has dropped 26 percent

Staff and administrators at John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio, have been told to take two weeks off work, unpaid, after June 1 as college officials try to balance the budget. Faculty members are not included in the furlough, but have been asked to reduce their pay voluntarily. University officials say the school's endowment had lost 26 percent of its value at the end of last year.
