Appeals court upholds suspension of student for online bullying

High school student in West Virginia had sued Berkeley County district over her punishment
July 28, 2011

From The Washington Post: A federal appeals court has ruled in favor of West Virginia school officials who suspended a 12th grader for creating a Web page ridiculing another student. A U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel has refused to reinstate a lawsuit by Kara Kowalski, who argued that her five-day suspension from Musselman High School in Inwood, W.Va., in 2005 violated her free speech and due process rights. Kowalski had created a MySpace page that ridiculed another student. The appeals court decided that officials in the Berkeley County district had authority to discipline Kowalski for online bullying.
