Renovation of GM building will provide space for schools

College program, middle and secondary schools will be housed in Argonaut building
July 20, 2009

From Autoweek: Detroit's massive 11-story Argonaut Building, built in stages in 1928 and 1936, is in the midst of a $145 million renovation. General Motors has donated the 760,000-square-foot building, and it will be redeveloped as "an integrated educational community focused on art and design." The facility will provide space for College for Creative Studies programs, including new graduate programs, with dining and student housing space for 300. The building also will house a charter middle and secondary school, devoted to design. The Argonaut was designed by Albert Kahn, and the architects for the renovation are Albert Kahn Associates, the descendant firm of the original architect, and creative consultant Jennifer Luce of Luce et Studio.

ALSO...from The Detroit Free Press: The renovation is to culminate Sept. 8 when fall-term classes begin for the College of Creative Studies and the charter school.
