Brown University in Providence, R.I., is building a $30 million fitness that will open in 2010. The Jonathan Nelson Fitness Center will feature a gymnasium, five studios for fitness and dance and 11,900 square feet for cardiovascular and weight-training. The University also plans to raise $15 million in additional funds to support the cost of running the building. The architecture firm of Sharples, Holden and Pasquarelli originally worked on plans for the fitness center, and the work was later transferred to Robert A.M. Stern Architects.
