University of Illinois sues over residence hall/convocation center project
From The Chicago Sun-Times: The University of Illinoishas sued the architecture and engineering firms tapped to design and build a 750-bed residence hall and convocation center. The project was designed to have a 3,000-seat auditorium, a 1,000-seat banquet facility and 40,000 square feet of retail and office space. But university officials charge that the companies "delivered a development of substantially reduced scope" and went $20 million over budget. Defendants named in the suit include Vasilko Architects and Associates; Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum; and Power Construction.
