Chicago board votes to consolidate 12 schools, approve charter funds

Board takes final action before new mayor replaces all its members

From The Chicago Tribune: The Chicagoschool board has approved nearly $3 million in start-up funds for four charter groups and voted to consolidate 12 schoolsover the continued objections of parents. The existing school board members are being replaced as part of the city's transition from Mayor Richard Daley to Rahm Emanuel. The new seven-member board will be seated sometime after May 16.
