Committee recommends no merger of high schools in St. Charles (Mo.) district

Group believes that declining enrollment will not be severe enough to force consolidation of schools

A St. Charles (Mo.) School District committee says it is unlikely that enrollment will decrease enough to require a merger of the district's two high schools. The committee is recommending that St. Charles and St. Charles West high schools stay open. Declining enrollment and tight finances prompted a reorganization in 2007 that resulted in the closing of two elementary schools. Since then, some residents questioned the future of the two high schools.
