University of Miami tests warning system

System delivers text message, e-mail or voice message to thousands on campus

The University of Miami has staged its first full-scale test of a new emergency notification system, by which 38,000 students, faculty and staff could be alerted to a bomb threat or a gunman on campus. Everyone was supposed to get an alert via text message, e-mail or voice message within the first 15 minutes, school officials say, but some had to wait much longer.
