Vacant Catholic schools for sale in Baltimore, but not to charters

Archdiocese views charter movement as a threat to survival of Catholic schools
March 17, 2011

From The Baltimore Sun: The Archdiocese of Baltimore has 13 vacant Catholic school buildings listed for sale or lease, but will not offer them to charter schools because church leaders view charters as a threat to the future of Catholic schools. The buildings were vacated after the archdiocese decided to close 13 of its 64 schools. The decision to stop leasing to charters is drawing the ire of several city, school and business leaders who say that the archdiocese's fear of competition is limiting educational opportunities in the city.
