Officials say they need to eliminate a $4.3 million deficit

The Southfield (Mich.) School District is a step closer to privatizing many of its service positions. The district is facing a $4.3 million deficit and is running out of options to avoid cuts to classroom programs. The board has directed the administration to seek bids for privatizing food service and custodial, transportation and warehouse services.
